MNWWN Woodland Walk at Oheyawahe/Pilot Knob in Mendota Heights

  • 2100 Pilot Knob Road Mendota Heights, MN, 55120 United States (map)

Oheyawahe/Pilot Knob is a Dakota sacred site and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Twenty years ago the site was proposed for a townhouse development, but because of citizen action, the City of Mendota Heights purchased the site and opened it for public visitation. We’ll walk the site and talk about the importance of the site to Dakota culture, why it is on the National Register, and the oak savanna restoration process. Visit this link for more information: Oheyawahi/ Pilot Knob (pilotknobpreservation.org)

Chris Soutter, a long-time member of MNWWN, will lead us. She has been involved with Oheyawahe/Pilot Knob since 2003. She is on the Mendota Heights Task Force that is working on capital improvements, an interpretive plan, and a natural resources plan for the site.

We will do this rain or shine! Please dress appropriately for walking on gravel and mowed trail. There is a parking area at the trailhead.

Please RSVP to metro@mnwwn.org if you'd like to join us.
