Join Jan Bernu, a Society of American Foresters Certified Consulting Forester and MNWWN board member, as she leads a general, informal discussion on a Woodland Stewardship Plan especially developed for WEI.  Learn about forest health  and sustainability, as well as options for encouraging the woods on this path.  Learn first hand what goes into preparing a DNR-approved Woodland Stewardship Plan incorporating WEI’s specific goals for the care of our forest.

Instructor Bio:  Jan Bernu is a Society of American Foresters Certified Consulting Forester.  In 1980, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of MN – College of Forestry in Forest Resource Management with a specialization in Urban Forestry. In 1981, she started her own consulting business, Two By Forestry (TBF), concentrating on land and natural resource management and specializing in working with private landowners.  She provides advice and assistance with land improvement projects that are geared towards the landowner’s goals and the capabilities of the land, mainly in northeastern MN. Her work includes preparing MN DNR-approved Woodland Stewardship/Forest Management Plans, which encompass an ecosystem management approach including wood, wildlife, water, and recreation.  She assists with coordinating and administering a variety of land management projects such as commercial timber sales, timber stand improvement, tree planting, natural regeneration enhancements, regeneration inventories, and timber and timber damage appraisals.
